The Paleo Diet
The paleo diet is just an idea to eat like our ancestors. The earliest humanoids (cavemen) came about over 2 million years ago, and homo sapiens came about 250,000 years ago. And the idea is because we have the same DNA they did, then we’re suitable for the same type of foods.
The idea of what they typically ate:
meat, fish, poultry, eggs, veggies, fruits, berries, nuts, and seeds
And avoid the kinds of foods they didn’t have (weren’t invented yet):
Oats, grains, legumes, dairy, sugar, processed foods, and vegetable oils, etc.
Grains are avoided because before 10,000 years ago, there was no access to it, nor any dairy, seeds, or nut oils. And obviously there were no processed foods or oils. Because there were no factories to produce them!
A break down of macro nutrients:
This diet cuts out all foods that most people are allergic to (wheat, soy, and dairy). And over the 10,000 years, they have been changed and refined.
There’s 3 versions, depending on where our ancestors lived:
The idea is that they ate 35 to 60% fat, 25 to 38% protein, and 10 to 40% carbs on average depending on if they lived in the north, south, or in tropical regions. For instance if they lived in the north, then they ate mostly fat because they mainly had fatty fish. In tropical regions, they would have a lot more fruits and vegetables. So let’s get into the keto vs paleo diet fight by talking about keto.
Keto is a strict low carb, high fat diet, with moderate protein. Keto it’s not an idea like paleo is. It’s all about changing the macros until you start burning fat. Keto is great with intermittent fasting because on this diet, you’re satiated longer. The macros for keto are pretty much like this: 80-75% fat, 15-20% protein, and 5-10% carbs.
The basic list of good foods to eat is:
meat, fish, poultry, dairy, eggs, veggies, berries, nuts, and seeds.
Foods to avoid are:
oats, grains, legumes, root vegetables (potatoes), fruits, sugar, all processed foods, and vegetable oils.
So the two diets are very similar, but they do have certain, subtle differences. I’ve highlighted the differences in the foods above.

What Are The Benefits?
The number one benefit is weight loss. You can loose weight on both, but could lose weight faster on the keto diet, because you’re eating so few carbs. But since both diets cut out all refined sugar, oil, and processed foods, you will lose weight on both.
Which is Better?
It really depends on you, and how your body reacts. Are you losing weight on paleo? If not, then maybe you should switch to keto. Or chose the lower carb version of paleo. If you’re on the lowest carb version of paleo and still not losing any weight, then I suggest trying keto. So if you want to start with keto and need some help, I would suggest this 30 Day Keto Cleanse. It is loaded with information and meal plans to get you started.
If you’re on keto and have achieved your goal weight, but miss some certain foods, you can maintain with paleo.
Every body varies, so there’s no one way to do things. Experiment, and listen to your body. You’ll find the right plan eventually.
Summing It Up
So the keto vs paleo diet, which one is better? It really depends on the individual. Just try them both and see what works for you. One diet can work wonders for one person, but not for another.
And again, paleo is based on an idea to eat like our ancestors ate. A philosophy on how humans have eaten through the entire human existence. The idea is that whatever they ate, that is what we should eat.
A paleo diet includes high carb veggies, fruits, nuts, and seeds.
And keto is based on measuring specific macros in order to lose weight, stop insulin resistance, and help cure certain diseases and ailments. Ketoers try to go as low carb as possible.
So the paleo diet is based on an idea, and keto isn’t. And no they are not fads, because this is what humans have been eating for as long as we’ve existed. It’s what we’re designed for. So in the keto vs paleo diet fight did any diet win? Nah, they’re both good diets! Actually any diet that doesn’t have processed foods and oils is a good one!
