Also, the higher the fiber, and the lower the carbs are, the better. And of course with any diet, you should eat only in moderation. When I tell people that I am on the keto diet, they sometimes ask me what I eat. I tell them to first keep it simple, because the keto diet is very simple. But people like to over complicate things. I follow the 20/5/75 rule (20 percent protein, 5 percent carbs, and 75 percent fat).

A good breakfast idea is eggs. When I’m home I will whip up some eggs with heavy whipping cream and scramble it up. If I’m bored, I will add cheese, veggies, and meat. Sometimes I add bacon, but not all the time.

I only use grass fed cheese, and I stick with the keto allowed vegetables and meat. For instance, I stay away from the potatoes, because they have way too many carbs. I limit the tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers.

Ketoers try to stay away from starchy and high carb vegetables. (Potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, peas, green beans, etc.)

I only use organic meats, keeping away from the sugar content if I use bacon or ham.

I usually just have a breakfast keto coffee, between this and the eggs, I’m full and satisfied. I’ll add about a teaspoon of ghee to my coffee, with a tablespoon of whipping cream, and stevia for sweetness.

If I’m on the go, I will just whip up a keto smoothie. Using the keto collagen powder. Yes, chocolate is one of my favorites!

The Best Foods To Eat On Keto During Lunch

Bulletproof coffee is a great meal replacement. I usually add 2 Tablespoons of grass fed butter (kerrygold), a teaspoon cinnamon to control my blood sugar, and stevia for sweetness. I talk more about it in my keto brunch post. If I don’t have the coffee, I’ll make a spinach smoothie instead. I add a cup of almond milk, a teaspoon of chia seeds, a teaspoon of matcha powder, a half an avocado, stevia for sweetness, and then I fill the rest of the blender up with spinach.

During Dinner

You can start off with a big salad. I usually have spinach instead of lettuce, we can have lettuce, but I just prefer spinach. I then add black olives, an avocado, fresh zucchini, cucumber, and boiled eggs. If I didn’t have tomatoes in my eggs for breakfast, I will add tomatoes. I do this because tomatoes are kind of high in carbs.

For the main course:

A big fat juicy steak is one of the best foods to eat on keto. And cooked on my indoor grill is the best thing ever! Also, you can grill your veggies at the same time. On other nights I cook chicken breast or a salmon fillet. The food still gets those wonderful grill lines. And one good thing about the grill is that it’s smokeless. The fire alarm won’t set off! It heats up the kitchen a little, but not as much as an oven does. And you get the same taste as a regular outdoor grill! I have a Hamilton Indoor Grill that’s amazing!

It’s great if you:

Live in an apartment and don’t have a patio big enough for a grill. (Or if your landlord doesn’t allow it).

Don’t want to go outside in the heat.

During Dessert

If you’re running low on fats, and don’t know how to include in your diet, keto desserts like keto bombs are perfect. But like with any dessert, you have to watch your intake. They are low in carbs, but they add up, and can ruin your diet.

Brownies for dessert anyone? I have a couple of these on the weekends for a little treat. I don’t eat them too often because I don’t want to become addicted. Because they are soo good!! What About Interminet Fasting?

Sometimes I do indulge in interminet fasting, which is not that hard, in case you’re wondering! And I’m not that hungry in the first place so that helps. Maybe because I’m fat adapted now and don’t need to eat as much.

What I do is stop eating at 8pm and the next day I break my fast at 12pm. Which is the common way to do it. 16 hours fasting and with an 8-hour eating window. I usually break my fast with my keto coffee or smoothie. So that means I skipped my bacon and eggs. These are some of the best foods to eat on keto, but you don’t have to skip them. Just eat them later.

What interminet fasting does, is help you lose even more weight. And it also helps lower your insulin resistance. Which has been said happens if you eat too often. For instance, if you eat 6 times a day, you eat too often. Your blood sugar is constantly spiked, and as a result your insulin level spikes. Which leads to insulin resistance and fat storage. If you’re insulin resistant, it’s next to impossible to lose weight, and also on your way to becoming a diabetic.

It doesn’t take much for me to get full, and it’s like what people sometimes say, I kind of forget to eat! I’m not that hungry anymore. And I like it simple, I enjoy my food, and hardly ever get tired of it. I’ve lost weight, I feel better, and I’m happy.

Before I started this diet I was depressed and grumpy. I’m no longer that way. I don’t consider it a coincidence because my mood improved after I stopped eating the crap I was eating. (Breads, cereals, pastas, sugar, vegetable oil, etc.).
